Start a Pageant in Your Area
- Keep it simple!
- Preliminary does not need a theme, or elaborate decorations.
- Preliminary does not require a stage.
Need to find:
- Location -
Can be any of the following; Fellowship Hall at a Church, Senior Center, University, Schools, Civic Center,
Community Center, etc.
Hint - find a place with space that will accommodate dancers, if needed. Check on availability of a piano.
- Date - establish date immediately. Begin advertising and publicity. All Pageants must be completed by
February 01, 2008.
How to advertise:
- Church bulletin, press releases to newspaper, posters, Senior Centers, Fine Arts Clubs, Departments of Universities,
Choral Groups, Community Theaters, Red Hat Clubs, etc.
Contestants must:
- Be 60 years of age or older
- Alabama resident for at least 6 months
- Citizen of the United States for at least 1 year
- May be amateur or professional
Suggestions (but not required) for Preliminary Winner:
- Crown / Tiara
- Ribbon /Sash with County/City/Entity name, Sash
- Flowers
- Photographer
- Prizes
Engage the community and find sponsors to assist.
Local winners must be:
- Available for speaking or performing.
- Available for Ms. Senior Alabama Pageant Workshop, February 8, 2008. Workshop will be held at:
Rocky Ridge Retirement Center

Hoover, Alabama
- Must be available for the Ms. Senior Alabama Pageant, March 20 - 22, 2008 at:
Wallace State Community College
Hanceville, Alabama
Ms. Senior Alabama Pageant participation fee is $150.00 and is due no later than February 8, 2008, at workshop.
Judging Procedures
- Use official forms from Ms. Senior Alabama, Inc.
- Must have 3 or 5 judges
- Must score according to Ms. Senior America rules.
Interview = 30%
One of the most important aspects of the Pageant is for all judges to meet each contestant individually. It
is during this personal interview that the judges have an opportunity to select a woman whose charm, personality,
and conversational ability meets the ideals of Ms. Senior Alabama.
- Questions come from competitor's application, current events, and judge's choice.
- No longer than 5 minutes.
- Wear tailored clothes or church dress.
Judges will be instructed to look for a woman who has a positive attitude toward aging, the ability to speak
well in public, provide entertainment to groups, travel across the state, participate in a variety of activities,
and serve as a role model for other senior women and the general public.
Philosophy = 20%
The Ms. Senior Alabama Pageant recognizes physical beauty, but seeks to emphasize that true beauty is a matter
of insight as well as eyesight. Each contestant is given the opportunity to present a statement which conveys her
"Philosophy of Life".
Contestant must memorize oral presentation that best expresses the principles that have guided her throughout life.
- Cannot exceed 35 seconds.
- Wear evening gown (not necessary at local level).
Evening Gown (Poise) = 20% - (Gown not necessary at local level)
During this event, the Judges will seek that contestant whose poise and grace display not only her clothes style,
but also her life style.
- Wear evening gown worn for philosophy. (Remember we are the age of elegance).
- Judged on walk, smile, posture, and demeanor.
Talent = 30%
The talent presentation is an integral part of the Ms. Senior Alabama Pageant. Talent may include all fine arts,
dancing, singing, artist, reading, poetry, any instrument, crafts, etc.
- May be amateur or professional.
- Wear costume or dress of choice.
- All material is memorized.
- Music is of contestant's choice.
- Talent cannot exceed 2 minutes, 45 seconds (Can be less.)
- Contestant must provide 2 copies of accompaniment CD/tape. CD's are preferred.
Program - Not required
- Local Director's choice according to funds.
Hospitality
- Drinks & water for judges would be nice.
- If session goes through lunch, perhaps a light lunch for judges and contestants.
- Reception afterwards up to Local Director.
